Black Knights6. @tenfootgerbil:They've gotten a few nods over the years. Ugly, unimaginative sets that all look exactly the same. Update (January 26, 2021, 3:29 p.m.): Yesterday, the LEGO Ideas team closed the first round of voting and we have the final results for you! Just two weeks ago, LEGO Ideas allowed fans to vote for a classic theme to be revived for the LEGO 90th Anniversary Set. The original vote had 30 different themes to choose from and took place from the 17th of January to the 25th January. No CMFs, and the only Ideas project to clear 10k got shot down. It scratched the Classic Space itch for me but I understand that this is an unpopular opinion. I love the idea of making this an annual thing with a new 18+ nostalgia set every year. Town, Model Team and AquazoneTown: although there are plenty of CITY sets nowadays, but the theme is narrowed to mostly Police and Fire with huge scale builds. Those philosophies permeated lego space for years, well beyond the end of CS. So, if one doesn't know the lore and is not interested in the backstory, what else is there that makes Bionicle so popular? SPACE! (As if one could be too old for play...)Voted Blacktron and Forestmen for other two, but there are a lot of great themes there, Lego. LEGO System A/S uses "Required Cookies" to run this website. Then Adventurers and Dragon Knights. Benny's Spaceship and Benny's Space Squad are not a full run of Classic Space and simply a movie tie-in but I'll take it. In which case I would vote for Time Cruisers. I know people love it, but I just don't get it. ADVENTURERS! @Darth_Dee:You want the "Spa" theme to win? M-Tron, Blacktron, and Futuron (omitted) are my jam, but I'm taking off the nostalgia goggles for this one.... Who am I kidding though I will probably vote for at least M-Tron. SPACE! I have an older LEGO account which LEGO can’t integrate with Ideas. Having 3 in the final could end up being a bit unfair if you have say have two space and one castle it could split the space vote. The latter were not LEGO customers at all, and only showed up because of the license. "I really like 15th century European arms and armour. It is neat, and I would have liked it as part of 1983-85, but as a stand alone I did not feel like I was building a Classic Space when I got it. SPACE! Forestmen, Classic Space, Blacktron. Lastly Classic Space, but in the cleaner looking white/blue livery which needs some love :). Phone: 718-436-7072. It was so popular they couldn't keep up with demand. So thank you to everyone who made their voices heard in this fan vote. Whatever the result though, the passion across the fanbase and the breadth of themes and choice (past and present) continues to be exciting and encouraging. I could easily see 2, 3, 4 heck even 5 or more sets based on Classic LEGO IPs appear.I say they should've just made the 3 most popular picks into 3 different sets. How about a classic Lego advent calendar where each day we get a small set from each of the classic themes? One of the three themes will be the theme the 90th Anniversary Set will be based on. However, Space as a larger original theme away from the drab grey wedges of so many Star Wars sets should have room to exist. I can’t imagine any comment has ever received more than 300 likes before.Maybe at the end of the year Huw can rank the most liked comments of 2021 :~P, To be honest, they would all be excellent choices. One of LEGO's most universally (heh heh) beloved themes. how and where do you vote in the 2nd poll? SPACE! People keep calling for a UCS style set and that's what myself and others want. But sure, call us names. Oct 30, 2017 375. SPACE! I'd love for it to be bionicle, and for the set to be a take on Mata Nui's original body. for something more unique. SPACE! "The only reason they revere it, is bias, based on their childhood memories. “The second vote will be the top three themes from the first vote. This one could be like a two in one... M-Tron! Voted for Town, Imperials & M-Tron. (I always preferred Blacktron and Futuron anyway, so a new Space theme please, Lego, just Space something! I also respect BIONICLE and would be happy for that to win, although I have little personal connection to the range.I must also mention that some options seem bizarre to me. Trains. Or they may just look at the three finalists and vote amongst themselves which they feel is more deserving, at which point some of these themes stand very little chance of actually being selected as the final winner, unless they get matched up against two themes that are even less favored. SPACE! Those philosophies permeated lego space for years, well beyond the end of CS. Castle, Knights (any), Pirates, Trains - I cannot choose. Model Team (5580 Highway Rig).On a sidenote, how on EARTH can tiny themes like Arctic and Time Cruisers be anything near a 'classic theme'!?! I really wish they wouldn't add "Trains" to the list, it'll just play with my heart and give me hope, just to see it completely ignored :(. Join my Discord! I don't know if the scarcity and nostalgia factor builds the demand, and whether an updated theme would spoil things. )"The problem with this vote is that many people won't be happy with the results if only one set will be made (or one or even two themes chosen for temporary resurrection). It was a great theme, well designed, with Johnny Thunder becoming as iconic as Captain Redbeard.2. Model Team3. Before knowing the options it was clear to me what I was going for: Castle, Pirates, Space! SPACE! "There is a non militarised space theme, City Space. You asked why there is vitriol against bringing back classic space, a big reason is when lego does modern versions of classic space and people still complain that it isn't classic space. @CapnRex101 said:"With regard to the perceived dislike for Classic Space, I think that is because the range has been celebrated by LEGO on various occasions. Points 1 to 3 are definitely important 4 and 5 are optional. It would be massive, like the dimensions of the UCS Millennium Falcon, and half-the weight, making it the largest BIONICLE set of all time. Castle and Space are each split between seven sub-themes, while other popular themes only show up once. Maybe if you squint really hard. SPACE! Aquazone - that was a blast of the '90s! It is also why Classic Space fans are often seen as @** holes, as they constantly dismiss what lego do bring as never good enough. There's a reason why people revere it, even if they never grew up with it. Look at the fangames, fan music, the archival work by BioMediaProject, how TTV, Mask of Destiny and BZPower have been able to stick around for years; the massive crowd on Maskposting, the canon contests... or even how original Bionicle creators like Greg F, Christian Faber and Nathan Furst are still interacting with the fandom (Nathan Furst even re-recorded the entire soundtrack of the three films and released them as digital albums only a few years ago). Fan Vote - The Final Vote: Help Celebrate the 90th Anniversary of The LEGO Group is open! They most likely both did great things for the company. SPACE! I voted Ice Planet as my 1. Again. And as much as my heart belongs to the quirky themes of my childhood, it would be naive of me to think they're influential enough to represent the company for its anniversary.Shoutouts to Aquazone, Rock Raiders, Throwbots, Time Cruisers and Ice Planet. The inclusion of a 4th option in the second round helps us because it spreads the vote out more between the non-Bionicle themes, thus making the total for each much smaller. Blacktron!!!!! Town was too big of an umbrella for me. ), compatible with PF and PU.I'd prefer the original blue/grey/trans-yellow colour scheme (albeit with bley), with the focus on exploring rather than shooting competitors. It was Bionicle, hands down, that saved the company. That awsome theme just doesn't get enough love anymore. My choices are:1. I am an AFOL now with Benny’s spaceship and was fortunate to have 375 Castle, 928 Space Cruiser and the original Barracuda growing up (and long since given away!). WolfpackFor me it's a tie between 1 - 2. Anyway, a big Time Cruisers set would be a chance to smash multiple themes together. @tgewin said:"I voted Black Falcons, Forestmen, and Imperials. At no point did I say it wasn't proper, nor did I say it wasn't good enough. I would love a Creator Expert style train stationImperials. Likewise, older fans will see it as entitlement when they've barely been getting anything for their beloved themes too. One day before, an interim result had already been sent out via email, summarizing the top ten choices at that time and inviting the users to participate in the poll if they had not done so, yet: But in terms of "LEGO historians", it's worth pointing out that Gary Istok really specializes in pre-minifig history, and hasn't paid as much attention to things that fell outside of his core interest. I just hope its not Bionicle. If it were better served, it would allow more room for other worthy themes like Adventurers and Forestmen in limited releases like this. There's more to it than aesthetics, or a particular shade of gray. This will be like the other fan polls where what gets votes for isn’t what gets picked (Star Wars anniversary set, Brickheadz, etc).We all know what will win (so does lego), so the set is likely already in production.Either way I’d vote for some castle stuff, but not classic castle. Simple as that.By the way, many of the names on that list must have happened during my dark ages, because I have never heard of some of them, such as Wolfpack (I always think of U-boats when I hear that term), Extreme Team or Lion Knights. Now that I have looked up Wolfpack I know why I have never heard of it. Those philosophies permeated lego space for years, well beyond the end of CS. Or again look at Nick Vas and Toothdominoes both Lego designers who as soon as the Ideas poll launched both of them got on and announced Teambionicle to get fans to vote (not to mention how they snuck in the Kanohi Kakama bonzai tree into the instruction manual for the recent botanical set...) Bionicle's fandom is back on the rebound as nostalgia grows, and this time the fans are adults with purchasing power and open wallets desperately waiting for Lego to give us something. It's not like that fanbase is out shopping for caskets, or getting shuffled off to retirement homes. Really hoping Johnny Thunder will make a full return in a new Adventurers set! @LegoDavid said:"Bionicle is the line that saved the LEGO company from going bankrupt, I think it deserves to win more than most of the other themes on the list. Sorry man, I just don't feel the magic. "Ah, okay! And the further irony is that, by the end, CCBS used a largely static parts palette, but CCBS Bionicle got cut short because it didn't sell well. Bionicle wasn't clunky, but only because they used just a tiny handful of System parts mixed in with a bunch of sculpted techno-organic elements, which is the main reason so many people hate it. And they did this with not just Space, but Castle and Pirates as well.In addition, I don’t know what they expected to happen with some of these. SPACE! The GOAT of space themes (my favourite anyway). I voted for Model Team, Foresters and Black Knights. One theme that I have heavy early childhood nostalgia for, and two that I was always jealous that they were before my time. Looking ahead to 2022, Ideas has now done Pirates in 2020 (with complementary Creator set), with the Blacksmith it looks like Castle this year, why not Space in 2022? Maybe voting for a Best Year would have been better, then re-releasing a selection of classic sets across all ranges from that year. Our BrickNerd team weighed in and came to the conclusion that the single perfect LEGO theme to make a comeback is… "Lego released The Lone Ranger sets with Indians and soldiers just a few years ago. Now that the Lego Group owns Bricklink, they could look at statistics to know the most wanted classic set and release a surprise set that no one saw coming. This vote will … LEGO extends the olive branch and people just set it on fire. @vzarmo said:"I miss that too, but unfortunately I think I understand the reason behind that decision. Seeing repeated calls for more might therefore seem strange because LEGO already pays regular tribute to Classic Space while other influential themes are overlooked.Personally, I would favour something different on this occasion so I voted for Adventurers, Imperial Guards and Rock Raiders. That was an easy first choice for me! "Only space/castle/town would feel right. Time CruisersKidding, kidding. https://www.reddit.com/r/bioniclelego/comments/l066nj/lego_anniversary_theme_voting_megathread/, https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/6c5a05b4-e29c-47ec-8841-a2bce1f8933e, https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/d1613450-c72c-4447-97c3-4120ce28ecbe. There's more to it than aesthetics, or a particular shade of gray. 1. SSSSSSSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In retrospect: should have suggested "My Own Train" as a parameter for that (releasing individual cars and engines/locomotives, and buildings). >:(, @Rimefang said:"All of those suggested entries are pure gold, it was a struggle to pick 3. Doesn't that make it sound like they already know what they're making and that theme will be included in the top 3 for the second vote? SPACE! I only voted for two:Classic Space -- 497 to be specificClassic Castle -- 375 to be specific, @bananaworld said:" @myth said:" @bananaworld said:""Is there a specific subtheme [...]? SPACE! Exosuit doesn't count? "You are allowed to choose 3 for the first vote. They also don't plan to release this set for at least another year, which leaves tons of time to work on a set design. I'm surprised they didn't realize how badly that would split the vote among castle fans. It's called Creator Expert. As a Lego fan of the late 90s, that's not even a difficult question, from my perspective....though I also thoroughly expect all three of them to be vastly overwhelmed by votes for Castle and Space, and I'm fine with that. You want to talk blocky and simplistic, go look at Life on Mars - a theme I'm more than likely supposed to be nostalgic for.The builds aren't nearly as simplistic as you claim, especially towards the latter end, and even sets as early as the Alpha-I Rocket Base have plenty going on in them. That will likely ensure one of either theme will be chosen. I voted Spyrius, Space Police and Forest Folk. Is comment no. Or Wolfpack!!!! Huw's been grooming us for weeks to be outraged that Scala isn't in the running. SPACE! The difference is they sold enough volume to make those parts profitable. fan vote; 90th anniversary To celebrate the 90th Anniversary of LEGO, help us choose a classic theme to be reimagined as a single new product for the 2022 Lego Adult Portfolio. @HuwA bonus regarding this poll is that Lego has kindly provided high-res images for all these classic sets to remind us what they looked like. Bionicle, likewise, that seems to largely rely on now defunct parts. My guess would be this is a core reason for both allowing 3 inyo the finsl vote and keeping the final vote secret.
