Mola Ram or Maula Ram ( Devanagari: मौला राम) (1743–1833) was an Indian painter, who originated the Garhwal branch of the Kangra school of painting. He was the high priest of the Thuggee cult and has made Pankot Palace his lair where he wants to use the five Sankara Stones to set up the reign of Kali.
Although he is the main antagonist of the film, he does not appear until the middle of the film. The son of a Thuggee priest, Mola Ram emigrated from Bengal to Pankot in search of three Sankara Stones. He was also a poet, historian and diplomat.
With two already in his possession, Ram believed all five would empower the Thuggee to destroy their British persecutors and establish his goddess Kali's reign on Earth. Mola Ram (Amrish Puri) is the main antagonist of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Much research about him was done by Barrister Mukandi Lal.
